Winter Solstice Yoga Nidra

Updated: 6 days ago

“This is the solstice, the still point of the sun, its cusp and midnight, the year's threshold and unlocking... the place of caught breath, the door of a vanished house left ajar,”

Margaret Atwood

Winter Solstice is a time to slow down and care for yourself by doing literally nothing. Lying in the cocoon of yoga nidra, a guided lying-down meditation, your nervous system can shift to the parasympathetic state. This is where healing and deep rest happens.

Rita’s nidra meditation will be infused with seasonal imagery, including poems and crystals. After the nidra there will be time for optional journaling - or stay resting.

Beginners are welcome. Rita checks in via email with students new to her offerings to support their experience. If you are new to her offerings, please register early to allow time for connecting.

These items are recommended for optimal comfort during the practice:

  • Comfortable clothes

  • Anything that would optimize your comfort, including but not limited to: blankets, cushion for your knees and head, and an eye pillow (scarves work great too!)

  • Lotion and/or essential oil in a carrier oil. Pick a scent that you find restful and not stimulating. Lavender is often a go to.

  • Hydration or small snacks; avoid caffeine before the practice

  • Journal or paper, pencil. Colored pencils if you would prefer to draw, instead of writing.

What you receive:

  • 1 live nidra class on Zoom

  • Recording of the class available for your personal practice or if the class date/time doesn’t work for your schedule. Available until the end of December.

  • Guidance on creating an ancestral altar prior to the class.

  • Email access to yoga nidra teacher Rita Jimenez for questions that might arise.
