Embodied Liberation: Unraveling White Supremacy through Somatic Practices

We require deliberate effort to challenge and replace white supremacy’s deeply ingrained values, beliefs and practices with an ever deeper sense of liberation. This workshop blends critical thinking with somatic experiences, offering a space to engage the mind-body with more holistic approaches including journaling, group discussion, beginner friendly yoga, meditation, and breathing practices.

Participants will leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of how white supremacy culture manifests within themselves. Through a combination of critical reflection and embodied practices, they will gain tools to actively resist and replace harmful beliefs and behaviors. Attendees will also cultivate a heightened awareness of where freedom resides in their bodies, empowering them to integrate liberatory practices into their daily lives - supporting ongoing personal and collective transformation.

About Danielle Marie Jones (she/her)

Danielle Marie Jones (she/her) is a weaver of somatic, liberatory and Earth-based practices. She has been practicing yoga since 2014 and in 2019 completed 300hrs of yoga teacher training from the Bhakti Yoga Movement Center in Portland, OR. She believes yoga to be a powerful pathway towards regulating our body systems and reimagining beliefs, practices, and socio-cultural systems that center equity and healing. Her classes are trauma-informed and value curiosity and play.
As both an environmental justice professional and yoga teacher, Danielle’s lived experiences and learning journeys have led her to nurturing workshops such as “Embodied Liberation,” "Reclaiming Care," and “Holding Space for Climate Grief” (with Kate Skaggs). She has been honored to offer yoga and embodied workshops for equity-centering organizations in Oregon (where she lived from 2014-2022) such as Wild Diversity, People of Color Outdoors, and ELSO Inc. Danielle now resides in Atlanta, GA where she continues to teach yoga and offers facilitation and curriculum design services through her consulting business ROOTSRISE LLC.
