Community Connections: Mindful Relating

Join us for September's Community Connection where we'll be focusing on listening & expressing your inner world

This event is part of our Community Connections program - a monthly gathering that's open to all and free for BYMC members.

This month's Community Connections' gathering is an all-levels mindfulness workshop, we’ll practice a powerful meditation framework called RAIN to help us find ease in challenging times. Build capacity for self-compassion and honest expression. Receive an intro to mindfulness meditation and guided partner RAIN meditation, and craft your own RAIN self-compassion card. The workshop is suitable for new and experienced practitioners.

What is RAIN meditation?

This meditation helps us ground down when we’re experiencing difficult emotions such as anxiety, grief, or overwhelm, by enabling us to intimately feel & move with emotions, while also holding them from a place of wisdom and love. In the workshop, you will bring to mind a challenge in your life. The 4 steps of RAIN are: Recognizing our emotions, Allowing them to be, Investigating the body, and Nurturing ourselves. The RAIN self-compassion cards you’ll create will help you call upon this powerful tool as a sweet balm for difficult situations in your daily life.

Meditating in pairs

You are invited to practice RAIN meditation with a partner. Meditating with a partner allows us to practice the technique while connecting more deeply with another human, whose deep presence can create a nourishing container for the practice. You’ll explore what it is like to express your authentic inner world, and experience the beauty of being witness to someone else’s. Feel free to come with a partner, or be paired up with another community member at the event. There will be no physical contact as part of the partner meditation. You may also choose to do the meditation solo, and write in your journal instead of sharing.

**Disclaimer**

This workshop is for mindfulness practice and community connection, and is not a substitute for therapy or counseling. While we may reflect on personal challenges, this is not a space for addressing deep psychological issues. If you’re experiencing significant emotional distress, please seek support from a licensed mental health professional.

Limei is the founder of BIPOC Mindfulness PDX, a community organization committed to making mindfulness and healing accessible to BIPOC individuals in the Portland area. She has taught mindfulness and yoga to hundreds of people across corporations, non-profits, and community settings through classes, workshops, talks, and multi-week courses. In her free time, she enjoys contemplative movement and writing, singing while biking, and convincing neighborhood cats to hang out with her.
